I believe religion has ruined our country.
This country was founded by Deists, and Christians. These two groups of people were able to write the Unites States Constitution. The Constitution has a strict separation of church and state. This means that religion cannot be a factor in running the country, nor can it be funded. This is because there are many different types of religion, and one cannot hold favor over another.
There has been an overwhelming amount of Christian belief systems corrupting the United States government for some time. Laws, acts, and inhumane systems have been put in place because of an idea that some things are not “Christian”, or go against the bible. When religion has an affect on people who do not practice it, or have the same belief systems, this causes an issue, a very big issue. For example, the idea that same sex people cannot get married is because it goes against the “word of god”. The problem is that nowhere in the bible does it say this. Not only does it not say that two people of the same sex cannot get married, it says nothing about the United States of America. Why? This is because it is from biblical times, it is full of stories, that are picked and chosen at random to preach, and pray about.
A book that was supposedly written 3500 years ago is what people are basing their lives, and opinions off of. Not only is this incredibly ignorant, it has nothing to do with the present time, and the lives of us, Americans. The bible is interpreted differently by many different people, and the general consensus is that gay marriage is wrong, abortion is wrong, and basically anything else they decide is wrong, is wrong. This plays a bad role in our society because it is taking away our rights as Americans to have freedom to do what we please, with our own bodies, emotions, money, etc.
In order to restore the United States to its freedom bearing ways, and be able to have freedom to marry who we want, abort a child because of rape, and have other rights that -because of the bible we don’t have, we have to do like our four fathers and be able to agree to disagree. The government should not have control over who gets to do what with their lives, they should be there to help us in times of need, and keep us safe.
Religion is outdated, it makes up 90% of the U.S. population and has a strong hold over different ideas and ideals.
