Karen Michel went are around asking three questions, “what do you live for? What would you die for? And what would you kill for?” For a lot of people this could mean the meaning of life, why do you get up every day?, for whom or what. What would you want to change in your life or the world around you? What do you stand for? And what are you willing to do for these things or people. I feel in today’s world a lot of people do not take the time out and ask why they are doing something. They simply go to work because they have to, or do home work just for a grade and really don’t see the meaning behind things. For people that have never sat back and thought about these questions this could be putting things in perspective. Or perhaps you can go without ever addressing these questions but I believe “if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything” which is a quote from Malcolm X.
What do you live for? In my case I live for a lot of things, my family being the first thing. My father left when I was one years old so growing up I lived to be a better person than he was. I live for my mom; I want her to see the man I have become on my own with her help and guidance. I live for my daughter being there for her is very big to me I didn’t have both my parents so I want to give her a better life. Love, I want to understand, find the meaning, and experience love. Knowledge, everyday is a learning experience; and I want to learn and grow each day and become a better person. I live for success to see my dreams and goals obtained and to become the best person I can be. Lastly I live for my ancestors and the people that came before me. If it wasn’t for them and the struggle they went through to make available better living than they had the least I can do is try to maximize my opportunity and get an education which was things they fought to have.
What would I die for? I believe in most cases if it’s worth living for then it’s worth dying for. During civil rights when African Americans were fighting for their rights freedom and equality, there was great knowledge that they knew that they would end up in jail or killed but they fought what they believed in. So in a since that’s what they lived and died for. So, in my case I would die for my family to give my daughter and generations to come a better life. I would die for my country I come from a somewhat strong military background where a lot of my closest uncles and cousins have served and fought for our country. So I share those same beliefs and would die to keep our country and people safe. I would die for love to protect a significant other if the bond was that strong. And lastly I would die for my hopes and dreams to make them come true, but of course I wouldn’t die without a fight.
What would I kill for? I would kill to live, over what’s right, to protect my family, and for our country. There’s not really much I would kill for. I never really thought about killing. I think killing is wrong and now that I think about I really don’t understand killing and senseless crimes. Other than to protect and defend I would not kill.
