Standing To Do

There are a few basic activities that you should be doing on an ongoing basis as part of this course. They are repeated activities and critical for your success here.

Post under “Reading/Research Journal” in this Conversation Center once a week, focusing on the reading of the course. Each post should center on your response to one cited information source and be at least 250 words long.

Publish a 1250 to 1500 word draft (or a revision) to your blog as assigned—in response to the given prompt. All major writing prompts will be posted to the professor's blog as they are assigned.

During the week immediately following a major draft due date, read and comment on the posts that are categorized as “Ready for Review” published by the members of your review group. Respond to at least three peers.

As assigned throughout the course, complete a “Personal Action Report and Self-Assessment.” The report assignment/form will be made available to you through the professor's blog when assigned and then submitted privately to the instructor. It is an essential part of the course and should be done thoroughly and thoughtfully.

Our Second Service Opportunity

I have just posted information about our second action/service learning opportunity that I have arranged for us this semester. I understand not everyone will be able to attend this event, but if you can, please do. It’s going to be a good one. If you can’t make this outing, I will be arranging a couple others, or you can find/create a service learning opportunity of your own. We all need to have completed at least one such outing by the end of week 8 this semester, as you will be writing about it.

I need an RSVP on this by no later than noon this Wednesday, February 8.

If you are interested, follow the instructions to register right away please, so I can provide the organization with an accurate head count. I just learned that they need to know how many are comping by no later than Wednesday, February 8.   Prof, I did register for this service opportunity, but do you need anything else to confirm we will be coming or if you received our waiver you know we are coming? At any rate, I am coming!

    Kimberly, do you mean you are coming to the the “Feed My Starving Children” service-learning opportunity that we have scheduled for next week? I have you down for that. The one I posted above is our second opportunity–a trip to The Greater Chicago Food Depository. (You could go to both if you wanted, but I’m asking only that students attend at least one of these events before week 8. Let me know what you mean? The FMSC event, the GCFD event, or both?
